I frequently implement non-invasive chemical imaging of paintworks at the macro-scale in collaboration with colleagues from research laboratories and museums. I participated to several international projects focused on the macro-scale analysis of historical paintings via complementary analytical techniques (MA-XRF, MA-XRD, RIS, MA-PL), such as the in-depth scientific examination of Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring (c. 1665) or Rembrandt’s The Night Watch (1642).

Recently, in collaboration with teams from the University of Antwerp (BE), CNR-SCITEC (IT), Rijksmuseum (NL), IPANEMA (FR), I was the PI of several chemical imaging campaigns at the Centre Pompidou in Paris. The objective was to probe artworks from key modern artists (Robert & Sonia Delaunay, Matisse, Kandinsky), in order to explore the markers of historical synthesis procedures, and establish missing links between the chemical origin of paint materials and their reactivity.
